FLF Meeting Notes 9/27/23


Updates from the library


Systemwide:


  • Amanda Rotella from Marketing has left us for greener pastures

  • Aptos Branch opening date is still uncertain due to delays

  • A revision of volunteer onboarding is currently in progress


Programming:


  • Breaking down the short story begins on Oct. 3rd with Doug Morris

  • Santa Cruz Noir Author Talk on 10/7

  • Jackie will introduce Karla de Long on the 11th

  • Food and Crime by Chris Garcia Author Talk 10/13 TBA

  • Generative Poetry Workshop for YPL series with Farnaz Fatemi on 10/17

  • Teen Public Art Workshop w/ Lea de Wit at 10am, on 10/21

  • Soul Collage returns on 10/28

  • Make & Explore STEAM projects this month will be spooooky!

  • All planned programs are on the calendar. As we plan them, we put them on the calendar.

  • Heather wanted to talk with me before saying yes to additional FLF-sponsored programs, and she also wants to make sure that other branches are getting additional programs, too. She likes the idea, however, and will get back to us.

  • Jessica has just returned from vacation, so Jackie intends to speak with her soon.

  • Scotts valley pingpong table has arrived in good shape. We await volunteers (no word, yet). Once we have volunteers, we will need the following:

    • Net ($20+)

    • Balls (tub of 50)

    • Starter & Regular paddles; at least 6)

  • Seed Library is getting going

    • We will see if we may need assistance from Friends

    • Would the FLF like to make the FAQ document for saving / growing seeds?


Personnel & Facilities


  • Due to the increase in gate count, Felton got 10 extra hours for Library Aides!

  • LAII Hiring should start soon for our 20-hr. LAII

  • Community Room paneling finally installed

  • Teen Room tables shipping date is 10/31/23

  • Juvenile periodical holder returned due to damage during shipping. New one shipped out yesterday!
