At the May steering committee meeting, members celebrated the third anniversary of the formation of FLF. We have recognized from the start that this would be a multi-year commitment, and celebrated the progress that has been made:

  • Felton identified as the top priority for library capital projects, with no other projects to be funded before it.
  • The Verutti property chosen as the site, and county reports and approvals looking positive, allowing new architectural plans to be made.
  • Measure R passed, giving the SCPL system a permanent revenue stream for operating expenses and strategic planning

This month the Felton Task Force resumes its work with architect Teall Messer on design issues. Join FLF in making our fourth year one of great progress towards our goal!

The FLF steering committee is currently planning the second annual Felton Library Festival, an old-fashioned ice cream social and watermelon feed, for the afternoon of September 13th on the Verutti site. This celebration is an important part of keeping our community informed, involved, and excited about the future Felton branch library. Our first celebration was a tremendous success, with some 400 attendees enjoying music, games, and refreshments.

We invite you to join us in planning the second Festival. Our next steering committee meeting is Tuesday, June 24, 4:00 p.m., at the Felton Firehouse. At that meeting, we will continue to explore a host of exciting ideas for children’s activities, refreshments, and performers. Volunteers are needed during the event, and for set-up and cleanup — please consider becoming part of our dedicated group!

If you would like to volunteer for the event but cannot attend the planning meetings, please call Nancy at 335-3130.
