We are happy to announce an increase to hours at the Felton branch library, from eight to fifteen. The branch will now be open Tuesday 1-6, Thursday 11-6, and Saturday 9-12. Hours at the Boulder Creek branch have also been increased, from nine to twenty-one: Monday 1-6, Tuesday 1-6, Wednesday 11-6, and Saturday 1-5. For a full list of improved hours, go to:
While FLF is pleased to see an increase in hours for the San Lorenzo Valley, we maintain that even these hours represent an unfair distribution of library services in relation to the contribution of SLV residents through their sales and property taxes. For a recent story on this topic, go to:
The "Task Force on Financially Sustainable Library Service Models" -- a twenty-member group consisting of community members, Library Board members, and Library staff members -- is deeply involved in researching alternative models for a sustainable library system. The Task Force recommendations will go to the Library Board in January, at which time the Board will make decisions regarding which areas of library services will absorb the next wave of budget cuts. Representing the San Lorenzo Valley are Nancy Gerdt (who serves on the Library Board representing the entire Valley), Paul Machlis (representing the Felton branch), and Darby Kremers (representing the Boulder Creek branch). The FLF steering committee is a small group of residents dedicated to preserving and improving library services to the entire San Lorenzo Valley. We meet on the fourth Tuesday of every month, at 4:00 p.m., at the Felton Fire House on Gushee St. in Felton. Our next meeting is next Tuesday, October 26.
